ACP Rajbir Singh

Introduction

1. Rajbir, who had over 50 'kills' to his credit, became the face of counter-terrorism operations in the capital.

2. He was the man instrumental in cracking the attack on parliament in 2001 and the Red Fort in 2000.

3. Rajbir in 1982 entered the Delhi Police as a sub inspector.

4. Rajbir was the only officer in the police history to be promoted to the rank of ACP in just 13 years.

5. He rose from a sub inspector to a high profile assistant commissioner of police.

6. His first bravery came in 1994 with the arrest of notorious criminal Virendera Jat following which he was promoted to the rank of inspector.

7. The next big ticket targets were gangsters Rajbir Ramola and Ranpal Gujjar. He was then posted as ACP (operations) in west district.

8. The word 'encounter' entered the lexicon in the mid-1990s when gangsters from western Uttar Pradesh began making forays into the capital. Rajbir was among the most prominent 'encounter specialists' at the time.

9. He on Nov 3, 2002 encountered two 'terrorists' in basement of the Ansal Plaza shopping mall in south Delhi.

10. ACP Rajbir Singh and Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma were awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry for neutralising a Jaish-e-Mohammad module in August 2003. In that operation, three militants were arrested, while two others were killed in a subsequent encounter.

11. ACP Rajbir Singh, was allegedly shot dead by a property dealer in the suburb of Gurgaon. Later the Underworld mafia don from Uttarakhand, Bunty Pandey, presently based in Vietnam, claimed that they killed ACP Rajbir Singh by using the property dealer's help.

12. Rajbir Singh remained head of the Special Operation Squad, a special anti-terror cell, for many years. He was a great son of India.

13. Rajbir recieved many awards in his lifetime.

14. A fictional character inspired by life of Rajbir Singh was played by Nana Patekar in the movie Shagird 2011.
