Jagdish Prasad Yadav

Introduction

1. J P Yadav, a martyr of the Parliament attack in 2001.

2. He was awarded Ashok Chakra.

3. His wife had returned the award back to the President in 2006 to show her family's resentment over the delay in execution of the death sentence to Afzal Guru. After the hanging of Afzal Guru, the family accepted the award.

4. J P Yadav belonged to Neem Ka Thana, Sikar.

5. Yadav was security assistant in Rajya Sabha when he laid down his life in the gun battle on December 13, 2001 to defend Parliament building from the terrorists and for his bravery, Yadav was conferred the Ashok Chakra posthumously in 2002.

6. Yadav was born to Kanhaiya Yadav and mother Seemli Devi.

Details of Parliament Attack

1. Contrary to reports that the terrorists involved in Thursday's attack on Parliament entered the complex through the Vijay Chowk gate, they entered through the main gate from the Parliament Street side.

2. The white Ambassador car with a red light, bearing number DL3CJ 1527, entered the complex from the Parliament Street side.

3. It then speeds towards gate number 12, used by the members of Rajya Sabha, where J P Yadav, security assistant of the watch and ward staff, signals it to stop.

4. With the driver showing no signs of slowing down, Yadav flashes an alert message on his walkie-talkie, and tried to stop them.

5. Seconds later, the terrorists shoot Yadav down from the moving car.
