Introduction

1. National Security Guard (NSG) commando Subedar Suresh Chand Yadav, 41, laid down his life while fighting terrorists who unleashed mayhem at the Akshardham temple in Gujarat.

2. He was honoured with the Ashok Chakra, the highest peace-time gallantry award, on Republic Day.

3. Born in Khatan Khera, Alwar, Rajasthan, Yadav had joined the 13 Mahar Regiment of the Army in 1979.

4. On deputation with the NSG since December 2001, he made the supreme sacrifice during the anti-terrorist operation at Swaminarayan temple complex .
