Introduction
1. Akhilesh Yadav (born 1 July 1973) is an Indian politician and as of March 2012 is the youngest person to hold the office of Chief Minister of the state of Uttar Pradesh.
2. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Kannauj in by-election of 2000 and retained his seat in the 2004 and 2009 general elections.
3. Akhilesh Yadav was born to Mulayam Singh Yadav and Malti Devi on 1 July 1973 in Saifai village, Etawah district, India.
4. He studied at Dholpur Military School in Dholpur, Rajasthan and subsequently was awarded a degree in environmental engineering while studying in Mysore.
5. He went to Australia to study for a master's degree in the same subject.
6. Akhilesh gives credit to Janeshwar Mishra who intiated him to join politics.
2012 UP Elections
1. He was given credit for the party's rise from a meager 97 seats in the 2007 Vidhan Sabha to a total of 224 and was subsequently elected the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh by the existing MLAs of his party.
2. He became the youngest Chief Minister of this state at the age of 38 years.
3. These elections, were projected by media as a fight between Star Campaigners for UP i.e. between Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi, which in the end was won by Akhilesh Yadav.
