Pattom Thanu Pillai

Introduction

1. Pattom A. Thanu Pillai (15 July 1885 - 27 July 1970) was a participant in the Indian independence movement who later served as the Chief Minister of Kerala from 22 February 1960 to 25 September 1962.

2. Born A. Thanu Pillai at Thiruvananthapuram, he was the son of Varadarajan and Eswari Amma.

3. After gaining his degree he worked briefly as a lawyer before abandoning that in favour of involvement in the Indian National Congress.

4. The Communist-led government subsequently collapsed as a consequence of the movement known as the Vimochana Samaram (Liberation Struggle).

5. Elections were held in 1960 and Pillai became the second Chief Minister of Kerala, as head of a PSP-Congress coalition administration.

6. He was Governor of Punjab from 1962 until 1964, and Governor of Andhra Pradesh from 1964 to 1968.
