Naik Ganesh Yadav

Introduction

1. Naik Ganesh Prasad Yadav (born 19 Feb 1971) was a Shaheed Veer Chakra Recipient of the Unit 1 Bihar Regiment, who gave his life fighting in the War of Kargil on 15 Aug 1999.

2. He Belonged to Pandeychak village in Patna district.

3. His Father's name is Ramdeo Prasad's. His wife's name is Pushpa Rai. His son's name is Abhishek.

4. Kargil Chowk is a War memorial that was established in year 2000, near by Gandhi Maidan, Patna. It is dedicated to the soldiers from Bihar & Jharkhand who had sacrificed their lives in the Pakistani infiltration in 1999. Naik Ganesh Yadav's name is engraved on Kargil Chowk war memorial.

The Bravery Incident in Kargil War

1. Naik Ganesh Prasad Yadav belonged to Charlie Company which was assigned the task of capturing point 4268, a well-fortified enemy post at an an altitude of 14,000 feet in Batalik sub-sector of Kargil on 28 May 1999 during 'Operation Vijay'.

2. After approach march of four hours, at 0400 hours on 29 May 1999 the assault was launched on the enemy.

3. Naik Ganesh Prasad Yadav was in the forefront of the assault under heavy volume of enemy artillery and small arms fire.

4. With his indomitable courage, fighting spirit and determination, he charged at the enemy sangar with utter disregard to his personal safety and killed two foreign mercenaries.

5. Naik Ganesh Prasad Yadav was seriously wounded in the hip by volley of bullets.

6. Despite being injured, the brave soldier, unmindful of the danger to his own life continued to fire at the enemy till he succumbed to his injury.

7. Naik Ganesh Prasad Yadav displayed most conspicuous act of gallantry in the face of enemy and made the supreme sacrifice.
